Pow! Art! Mart! is the second show by M WOODS showcasing Lucy Sparrow's felt art creations in China. The exhibition runs November 8th to December 1st 2019 above the world's largest Starbucks on Nanjing Xi Lu (West Nanjing Road) in Shanghai.
Design Concept
Working at the intersection of contemporary art and craft, Lucy Sparrow's work sets the agenda for textiles within the urban art scene. She works mainly with felt and wool, creating over-sized soft versions of existing objects and major art works The aim of this 'feltism' is to question, playfully, the politics of artistic production and to tackle (often collaboratively) some of realities of contemporary living, dealing with issues concerning the politics of consumerism, social exclusion and mental wellbeing.
Pow! Art! Mart! allows visitors to immerse themselves in an interactive market complete with art pieces and every supermarket item imaginable, all made from felt.
Sokaris Studio worked with the client to build up the exhibition including, interior design and 3D models, fabrication of the walls and displays, custom lighting design and fabrication, and project management.
